History
The name Macaron is derived from the Italian word macarone, maccarone or maccherone.
Macaron is a sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food colouring. The macaron commonly consists of a ganache (kind of a chocolate), buttercream or jam filling sandwiched between two cookies.
Macaron is a different recipe and should not to be confused with Macaroon or Macaroni.
Macarons are mildly moist and easily melt in the mouth. In France, there are many French regional variations, but the colourful macarons known overseas are often referred as ‘Parisian Macarons’.
