Cleaning the grime and splatters off my gas stove every day was becoming quite a task! When my husband and I upgraded to a gas stove that had even more burners, I could barely keep up with the maintenance! After some trial and error, I’ve finally figured out the how to clean a gas stove in just a few minutes! You don’t have to spend extra money in buying expensive cleansers. Just a few everyday household items are needed.

Supplies Needed:

  1. Dish Washing Liquid
  2. Kitchen Towel
  3. Sponge and Soft Cloth
  4. Scrub Brush

Steps to follow to clean a gas stovetop :

Step 1:
To begin, I removed the grates on the stove and then soaked them in a sink filled with warm soapy water. If the knobs are removable, remove them and drop them in water.

Step 2: Use a brush to dust off crumbs and burnt particles of food from the stove

Step 3: Take a few drops of dishwashing soap on the wet sponge or soaked cloth. Squeeze it on the stove to get the soapy water on the stove– especially on the stubborn areas with grime. Ensure that you don’t get too much water on the stove.

Step 4: After you have let the grease soak for a few minutes, it should now come off easily using a scrubbing brush. Use a wet cloth to wipe the burners. However, be careful not to get too much water in the holes of the burners and ensure that they are dried well as wet burners lose their ability to ignite.

Step 5: If soap and water do not successfully remove burned or stubborn food, then make a cleaning solution with one part of vinegar and one part water. Soak the stove in this solution for some time and then wipe and scrub it clean.

Step 6: Repeat the wiping and scrubbing until the stone is clean. Now dip your sponge in water till it is clean and then wipe the soap away in one direction.

Step 7 :  Use a clean and dry washcloth to wipe the water. If your stove top is steel, then make sure you wipe with the grain.

Step 8: After you have cleaned the stove, clean the soaked grates with a brush, rinse with water and dry before you place them on the stove. This step can be done once every few days.

Step 9: Scrub the knobs of the stove if they are removable. If the knobs can’t be removed, then wrap a cloth around your finger and wipe clean. If your stove has an oven, clean the handle too.

Step 10: After you have replaced the knobs and grates in place, you can now stand back and admire your shiny and good as new stovetop!

Additional Tips for Water Marks and Residue

Even after you have cleaned the stove, it is common to see watermarks and grease on the gas stove top. To get rid of these, take some rubbing alcohol on a tissue and polish the stove. However, make sure that you do not switch on the gas stove before it dries as it can be inflammable. Evaporation of rubbing alcohol will take a split second.

How to Clean a Gas Stove with Other Things

If gas stove stains are too stubborn to be cleaned with just plain soap and water, then I use the following methods to remove grime from different parts effectively:

1.Ammonia

Ammonia is perfect for cleaning accumulated grime on grates and burners. Take removable burners and grates in a ziplock pouch. Put in ammonia and close the bag. Let it work overnight and rinse off to reveal a shine.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda

A mixture of baking soda and Hydrogen Peroxide is best to fight burnt and oily gunk. Sprinkle the baking soda and pour Hydrogen Peroxide on it. The mixture starts to bubble and melts all the dirt. Rinse and dry the gas stove.

3. Boiling Water

Another simple yet effective way of cleaning a gas stove is by pouring plain boiling water. Pour the water over the dirt and then wait for a few minutes. The grime loosens after which you just need to scrub or wipe off with a soapy sponge or cloth.

4. Salt and Baking Soda

Mix baking soda and salt and make a paste using water. Dip a cloth in this and clean the gunk. (Bonus tip: When you spill liquids in the kitchen, this method is an amazing way to get it cleaned up fast!)

5. Vegetable or Olive Oil

If there is dried gunk on your gas that is not budging, loosen it by pouring some olive oil or cooking oil on it. Scrub the stain and follow with your kitchen cleaner.

6. Lemon and Baking Soda

This method is perfect for glass top stoves. Lemon is known as a grease cutter whereas baking soda has abrasive properties which will not scratch your glass stovetop. Place some baking soda on the area you want to clean and then rub using a lemon slice. Wipe with damp cloth.

7. Oven Cleaner

Ordinary oven cleaners also clean parts of gas stovetops effectively. Take out removable pieces and place them out in the open. Spray oven cleaner on them and set them aside overnight. Clean grate and burners in soapy water and wipe dry.

8. Scraping

This step is useful for stains. Take a razor blade and place it at an angle. Start scraping off scorched food particles and then wipe them with a cloth.

All the ingredients mentioned above will only work when the stovetop is cool. Buffing your stovetop every day makes it easy to clean. Try to clean it every day to avoid over accumulation of gunk and grime. Comment if you like these methods and if you have your own tested way you would like to share with us.
